There is an important difference between MLP's first public competitions and its inaugural league season. The proposed 2027 program is designed to introduce polocrosse to new markets. The 2028 program is intended to launch a recurring professional competition with meaningful home and away fixtures.
MLP plans to begin with a smaller invitational tournament and promotional home exhibitions across multiple cities. These events provide an accessible introduction to the sport through on-field competition, explanations of the rules and opportunities for local communities to meet the people involved. They also let the league test venues, operations, horse facilities and audience demand before committing to a full season.
The working format consists of eight teams in a double round robin. Each team would play seven opponents twice, once at home and once away. That means 14 regular season matches per team, seven home and seven away, and 56 league matches overall. A postseason format would be announced separately.
A spring 2028 start has been under consideration, with a March opening among the options. The dates are not yet a confirmed fixture list. Final scheduling must account for weather, horse welfare, ground availability, transport and league operations. Supporters should use the official MLP schedule for confirmed dates and ticket details.
A recurring calendar gives families time to plan travel, businesses time to participate, broadcasters recurring appointments and supporters an understandable rhythm to the season. A league becomes part of people's routines by delivering consistently, not by announcing dates it cannot support.
